Opening and Saving Projects

The File, Open menu command (Ctrl/Cmd+O) opens a file dialog box, shown in Figure 3.1, where you can choose the project file to open. All Anime Studio files are saved using the .ANME file extension. At the bottom of the file dialog box is a File Name drop-down list. This list holds all the recently opened files for quick retrieval.

Tip

The file dialog box is resizable. If you have a folder containing a large number of files, then making the dialog box larger will make it easier to locate and select files to open.

You can also open a saved file by dragging it from the Finder or from Windows Explorer and dropping it on the working area.

If you select the File, Close menu command (Ctrl/Cmd+W), the current project file will be closed, and the working area will appear dark.

The File, Save menu command (Ctrl/Cmd+S) saves the current project automatically. If the project hasn’t been saved yet, a file dialog box appears in which you can specify a location and a name for the project file. New projects are named Untitled.anme until they are given a name. The file name is listed on the title bar of the current window. If the file has already been saved, then you can use the File, Save As menu command to save the file with the different name.

If you decide to close the current project or exit Anime Studio, then a warning dialog box, shown in Figure 3.2, appears if the file has changes that have not yet been saved. Clicking the Yes button saves the current changes or opens the file dialog box where you can save the current project. Clicking the No button closes the project or exits the program without saving the recent changes; clicking the Cancel button returns to the program and the file remains open.
