Selecting Colors
Fill and stroke color is set using the Style palette. If you want to change the color of either, you can simply click the color palette located at the bottom of the Style palette. Left-clicking a color in the color palette changes the Fill color and right-clicking a color in the color palette changes the Stroke color. More on using colors and the Color Picker is covered in Chapter 15, “Setting Object Style.”
Once a shape’s fill color and style are defined, there are ways to quickly copy and paste the defined fill color and style to other shapes using the Eyedropper tool.
Using the Eyedropper Tool
The Eyedropper tool loads the fill and stroke color for any shape on any layer by simply clicking it. After the colors are loaded into the Style palette, you can apply them using the Paint Bucket tool or by holding down the Alt/Opt key and clicking the shape.

Pulling Colors and Styles from Other Shapes
If a shape is selected, you can pull a fill color and style from another shape by holding down the Alt/Opt key and clicking the fill that you want to borrow. This copies the fill color to the selected shape. The technique is called pulling the fill color.
Note
Pushing and pulling only works with fills and cannot be used with strokes by themselves.
Pushing Colors and Styles from Other Shapes
When a shape is selected, you can push the selected shape’s fill color and style to another shape by holding down the Alt/Opt and Ctrl/Cmd keys and clicking on the shape that you want to push the fill color and style to. This copies the fill color from the selected shape and pushes its fill color and style to the shape you click on.
Tip
You can quickly apply fill colors to your objects by pushing and pulling colors. One method for speed filling is to keep a small set of squares off to the side that holds the project colors. These squares can then be used to push and pull colors quickly.
