Changing Curvature at a Point

If you’ve created a sharp corner with the Add Points tool and later realize you want a smooth corner instead, you can use the Curvature tool (C) to smooth the curves leading to and away from a single point. Simply drag the mouse to the left to increase the curvature or to the right to reduce it to a sharp point. This tool also works on multiple selected points, and the Options bar lets you select a selection set. Figure 11.13 shows a shape whose curvature has been reduced to straight lines, and Figure 11.14 shows the same shape with an exaggerated curvature.

Figure 11.14. Extreme curvature.

The Curvature tool (C) lets you change the amount of curvature that is applied to a point variably, but if you want to jump immediately to no curvature, you can use the Peak button (Ctrl/Cmd+P), or to a smooth setting with the Smooth button (Ctrl/Cmd+M). These buttons are both located on the Options bar. These features are also available in the Draw menu.

New Feature

In the previous versions, the Peak and Smooth commands were buttons in the Tools palette, but moving these features to the Options bar was done to simplify the Tools palette, which is new to Anime Studio 6. The keyboard shortcuts have also changed.

Changing the curvature at a point also impacts the curves on either side of the point, so more on curvature is presented in Chapter 12, “Editing Paths.”
