31. Using Particle Layers

Some effects, such as snowflakes blowing around during a storm, can be created by making a large number of objects dance and move randomly around the scene. The problem with this is that such a large number of objects can quickly become unmanageable. The answer to this problem is to localize them in a particle layer.

A single particle layer can create multiple copies of any sublayers contained under it. This provides a quick and easy way to turn off or delete all the copies at once. Particle layers also give you access to a settings panel in the Layer Settings dialog box where you can set the total number of particles and several other properties describing the particle’s motion. So, let’s get going because I detect some snow flurries that are coming.
