Exporting Flash Files

To export the current animation to the Flash (SWF) format, select the File, Export Animation (Ctrl/Cmd+E) menu command. This makes the Export Animation dialog box appear, as shown in Figure 34.1. Select the frame range for the animation to export. If you click the Entire Animation button, then the entire defined range of frames will be set to export. Next, select the Flash (SWF) option from the Output Format drop-down list.

When the Flash (SWF) option is selected, several of the Render Quality options are disabled, but you can still choose to render the animation at half dimensions, at half frame rate, to use reduced particles, or to use variable line widths. Details on each of these options are presented in Chapter 33, “Rendering the Final Scene.”

Tip

Enabling the Variable Line Widths option can result in very large SWF files.

After clicking the OK button on the Export Animation dialog box, the Save As dialog box opens, and you can name the file to be exported and select a folder where you want the file to be saved. Now the exported SWF file can be opened within a Web browser or within a Flash player to be viewed, as shown in Figure 34.2.

Note

Although SWF files exported by Anime Studio can be loaded into Flash MX and later, Anime Studio exported SWF files cannot be loaded into Flash 5 or earlier versions.

Exporting Limitations

Because some of the features found in Anime Studio are unique, there are some elements that cannot be exported. If you try to avoid using these features, the export animation process will go more smoothly. The following cannot be exported:

  • Brushes: Custom brush strokes aren’t exported and are dropped from the project.

  • Nongradient fill effects: All fill effects with the exception of a simple gradient cannot be exported.

  • Nongradient stroke effects: All stroke effects with the exception of a simple gradient cannot be exported.

  • Layer effects: Layer effects, including layer shadows, shading, and noisy strokes are not exported.

  • Motion blur: Motion blur as defined in the Layer Settings dialog box is not exported.

  • 3D movements and cameras: Flash doesn’t understand 3D camera movements and will not export such effects.

  • Images controlled by bones: Image layers can be exported, but not if they are linked to a bone.

  • Layer masking: Masking effects are also not exported.

  • Multiple audio files: All sound files must be included in a single MP3 file in order to exported to Flash.

  • 3D layers: Any objects contained on a 3D layer will not be exported.
