Once you get that first job on Elance, don’t get all relaxed and gooey. Now’s when you must deliver the goods above and beyond what the client expected. Don’t slow down. They placed their trust in you when they clicked the green Select button. To get that crucial feedback, you must now shine.

After you’ve been awarded your first job, you may think it’ll be easy from now on. But in reality, you must continue to submit many proposals and market yourself continuously until you get to a level where referrals and repeat projects keep your boat afloat. This will happen over time. Trust in the process.

After all, this is the fun part. You finally get to work in your new freelancing role. In order to develop repeat business and referrals, you must remember to deliver great service and quality work with each client. Don’t let up just because the jobs are starting to come in.
