The Subject of Underbidding

Underbidding is used far too often as a ploy to get awarded projects. As I mentioned previously, many top clients are actually put off by bids that come in too low. Other clients, however, have price as a main criteria for hiring. These people consistently hire the lowest bidder and there’s not much you can do about it.

The question is, do you really want to work for someone who values cost above everything else? Is this the type of relationship you want? You provide a valuable service and should be able to charge appropriately. If you’re not scoring those first, valuable jobs, then look into how you’re marketing yourself before you consider lowering your fees to the bottom of the range.
