Maximizing Client Searches

An often-overlooked key to getting the best jobs via invitation is understanding how the Elance system works when clients search for contractors. Think of it as looking at the other side of the coin. Just like a contractor searches for jobs using certain parameters, clients search for contractors using parameters.

You can take valuable steps to make sure you get maximum exposure through the Elance search engine. The search engine will look for the following data:

Keywords. Choose the ones a client would use to search for the type of job you want to do.

Skills. Clients will select skill tests in their search criteria. Go through the available Elance skill tests and choose 10 of them that fit the work you do. Self-rank at the beginning if you must, and then take the actual tests later. When a client searches for contractors with these skills, you have a higher chance of being seen.

Hourly rate. Choose an hourly rate because, once again, this is a criteria clients search with.

Verified credentials. The search engine emphasizes contractors with verified credentials. This designation helps you get a higher Elance level ranking.

By maximizing your criteria for client searches, you stand a better chance of getting higher up in the search results and therefore noticed. Every little bit helps.
