You’ve Been Awarded the Job, Yikes!

You will be notified by email and also on the Elance system itself when you are awarded a job. The email subject line will say congratulations and state the name of the project. The body of the email will contain a link directly to the project terms and milestones. When you click on this link, you will be able to accept the project and adjust any milestones necessary.

It’s rewarding to be chosen for a project, especially if in the process you had to wade through a bit of competition. Congratulate yourself, go out to dinner or order in pizza as a treat. Then roll up your sleeves and get down to the business of managing your project.

TOP TIPS

Marketing your freelance business is an ongoing process. Every single time you communicate with your client you have the opportunity to be professional, competent, and positive. This will directly pay off in feedback, referrals, and repeat business.

First off, keep in mind that you will be constantly judged by the client. Again, it’s how the brain works. Instinctively we assess people’s actions and reactions and file them in the “I like it!” or “Wow, what’s up with that?” folders.

Therefore, you need to always be thinking of this aspect of your online image. You can’t smile and wave hello as you pass their office door, or offer them a Starbucks next time it’s your turn to buy and deliver. But you can do the online equivalent. Don’t overdo this, just pay attention.

The first thing you need to do when you are awarded the job is contact them through the workroom message board and say thank you. The power of those two words can move mountains. You can even let them know how excited you are to get going. It’s true, and this is great PR. It takes you all of a few seconds. How cool is that?
