Archiving Server Features

,

Lync Server offers several changes that enhance the archival of IM and meeting content, especially for compliance purposes. Some of these changes include

Consolidation of IM and meeting content archiving—In past versions of Communications Server, IM and web conference content were managed separately. As such, the archival of each was also stored separately. In Lync Server, the policy settings around archiving for IM and meetings are combined for easier administration. Similarly, the core archive store contains both IM and web conferencing content together.

Searchable transcripts—Lync Server offers a new cmdlet that creates a searchable transcript of archived content. This transcript includes links to files that were shared, attendee entries and exits, and IM content.

Per-user settings for conferences—In Lync Server, per-user archive settings work for all types of conferences. As such, if a given user’s activity is archived, IM and meeting content in all types of conferences is archived. It is no longer necessary to configure this behavior in multiple places for a single user.

New policy settings—Lync Server includes a new policy setting that enables you to disable features that do not support archiving, such as annotation, application sharing, or peer-to-peer file transfers. This prevents situations in which an archived user can participate in activities that are not actually archived.
