Summary

As we’ve seen in this chapter, Microsoft Lync Server 2010 adds a fair amount of new functionality that addresses perceived weaknesses in the previous generation products. By providing enhanced PBX and Enterprise Voice functionality along with concepts like the Survivable Branch Appliance, Microsoft has gone a long way in making Lync Server 2010 a very viable choice to run an entire voice system.

New topology options offered by Microsoft Lync Server 2010 give administrators added flexibility in designing an infrastructure that can meet their needs. Added support for clients beyond just Windows and just Internet Explorer make it that much easier to support a heterogeneous environment. By understanding these new features and taking advantage of them, administrators are well situated to build useful and resilient implementations to keep their end users happy.
