Chapter 2. What Is New in Microsoft Lync Server?

Lync Server improves on previous versions of Communications Server in many areas and introduces several new technologies that enable Lync Server to better support companies in their quest for a completely integrated communications suite. Technologies ranging from branch office and data center resiliency to emergency 911 support for Voice over IP (VoIP) to improved interoperability with existing PBXs all position Lync Server to serve as a one-stop shop for environments seeking to upgrade their communications suite.

This chapter highlights the technologies new to Lync Server. It also highlights improvements to technologies that were introduced in OCS 2007 and OCS 2007 R2 to provide insight into how Lync Server can best be utilized in one’ s infrastructure.
