Summary

In this chapter, we looked at how Lync can be enhanced using the various APIs from Microsoft. We saw examples of how UCMA 3.0 and the Workflow APIs can be used server side to automate processes or to provide IVR type applications that can respond to voice calls of instant message type inquiries from your customers. We also saw how to extend the Lync client to add context-sensitive content and how to add Lync client functionality to your own applications.

So, the fact that the Wow Factor for Lync has worn off is not a bad thing. It is replaced by an infinite Wow Factor wrapped around what you can do with the programming tools that Microsoft provides. The Wow Factor never goes away. It just keeps changing and growing.

The next group of components is the Instant Messaging components. They are duplicates of the Speech components we just covered, and you use them similar to the Speech components.
