• Determining the Scope of the Deployment
• Determining Your Infrastructure Needs
• Planning for Clients and Devices
When deploying a potentially complex application like Microsoft’s Lync Server 2010, it is critical to plan the deployment prior to the build in order to optimize the chances for a successful deployment. By planning the features to deploy and by determining the capacity needed and what hardware and software are necessary to support that capacity, you can avoid the pitfalls of deploying off the cuff and potentially having to make major changes to the architecture midway through a build or, wor se yet, midway through a deployment to the users.
Prior to this chapter, you should be familiar with the various roles and tools involved with Lync Server 2010. You should understand the basics of Lync Server topologies, sites, and server pools. If you are not yet familiar with these items, review those sections of this book before proceding with the upcoming planning chapters.
