Annotating the Sections

Now that the views are created, you can add annotation to further explain design intent. Labels can be added through the code set style or by adding labels to the section view itself. These section labels can be used to label the section offset, elevation, or slope. You can see an example in Figure 12-26.

Adding Labels to the Section View

There is often a need for labels to show what the various graphics mean in a section view. To show exact elevations, labels are much more efficient than scaling information from the grid. In this exercise, you’ll label the section view elevation at the designed centerline of the road:

1. Open the sections7.dwg file.

2. Change to the Annotate tab and choose Add Labels from the Labels & Tables panel. The Add Labels dialog appears.

3. Select Section View from the drop-down menu in the Feature selection box.

4. Select Offset Elevation from the drop-down menu in the Label Type selection box.

5. Select CL Elevation from the drop-down menu in the Label Style selection box.

6. Click Add.

7. Pick a grid on the section view to select the view.

8. Pick the top centerline of the corridor in the view. It may be easier to pick using the Intersection osnap.

9. Click Close in the Add Labels dialog. You now have labels reflecting the section view elevation at the centerline.

10. Close the drawing without saving.
