The Bottom Line

Properly collect field data and import it into Civil 3D. You learned best practices for collecting data, how the data is translated into a usable format for the survey database, and how to import that data into a survey database. You learned what commands draw linework in a raw data file, and how to include those commands into your data collection techniques so that the linework is created correctly when the field book is imported into the program.

Master It In this exercise, you’ll create a new drawing and a new survey database and import the MASTER_IT_C3.txt file into the drawing. The format of this file is PNEZD (comma delimited).

Set up description key and figure databases. Proper setup is key to working successfully with the Civil 3D survey functionality.

Master It In this exercise, you’ll create a figure prefix database and a description key set.

Create a new description key set and the following description keys using the default styles. Make sure all description keys are going to V-Node:

  • CL*
  • EOP*
  • TREE*
  • BM*

Create a figure prefix database called MasterIt containing the following codes:

  • CL
  • EOP

Create and edit field book files. You learned how to create field book files using various data collection techniques and how to import the data into a survey database.

Master It In this exercise, you’ll create a new drawing and survey database. Translate the database based on:

  • Base Point 1
  • Rotation Angle of 10.3053°

Manipulate your survey data. You learned how to use the traverse analysis and adjustments to create data with a higher precision.

Master It In this exercise, you’ll use the survey database and network from the previous exercises in this chapter. You’ll analyze and adjust the traverse using the following criteria:

  • Use the Compass Rule for Horizontal Adjustment.
  • Use the Length Weighted Distribution Method for Vertical Adjustment.
  • Use a Horizontal Closure Limit of 1:25,000.
  • Use a Vertical Closure Limit of 1:25,000.
