A Little More Sampling

Although it is good practice to create your section views as one of the last steps in your project, occasionally data is added that needs to be shown in a section view after the section views are created. To accomplish this, you need to add that data to the sample line group. You can do so by navigating to the sample line group and editing its properties. The Sections tab shown in Figure 12-23 shows the Sample More Sources button you click to add more data to the sample line group.

Once you click Sample More Sources, the Section Sources dialog opens. This dialog allows you to either add more sample sources to or delete sample sources from the sample line group. In this example, you have a sanitary sewer network that was added to the project. Because you need to show the locations of the sanitary pipes with respect to the designed road, you need to add the sanitary sewer network to the sample line group. To do so, simply select the sanitary sewer network and click Add, as shown in Figure 12-24.

In prior releases of Civil 3D, it was difficult to add more information to a section view once the sample lines were created. Quite often, it was easier to delete the sample line group and create a new one from scratch, including the information that you wanted to show. In this exercise, you’ll add a pipe network to a sample line group and inspect the existing section views to ensure that the pipe network was added correctly:

1. Open the sections6.dwg file.

2. In Prospector, expand the Alignments Centerline Alignments Cabernet Court Sample Line Groups SL Collection – 3 branches, as shown in Figure 12-25.

4. Switch to the Sections tab if necessary.

5. Click Sample More Sources. The Section Sources dialog appears.

6. Select the Sanitary Network from the drop-down menu in the Available Sources selection box.

7. Click Add.

8. Click OK to dismiss the Section Sources dialog.

9. Click OK again to dismiss the Sample Line Group Properties dialog.

10. Close the drawing without saving.
