Chapter 3. Work in Office Programs

Chapter at a Glance

Work in Office Programs

Before we get started with the process of creating Microsoft Word documents, Microsoft Excel workbooks, and Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, we’ll spend a bit of time practicing the ways that you view and move around in each of these core Office programs. Then in later chapters, we won’t need to give specific instructions for changing views, moving to different pages or slides, and so on.

Word, Excel, and PowerPoint each offer multiple views of files. Some views depict a file exactly as it will appear in print; others display more information on the screen. You can easily switch between views, and choose the best view for your needs at a specific time.

Word, Excel, and PowerPoint also offer multiple ways of moving around in file content. You can use menu commands, on-screen navigation tools, and keyboard shortcuts to move a variety of directions and distances.

In this chapter, you’ll learn about skills that are specific to viewing and moving around in Word documents, Excel worksheets and workbooks, and PowerPoint slides and presentations.
