From the Clip Art page of the Object Palette, you can view all the images stored in the Clip Gallery, which is installed with Office 2008. The Clip Gallery includes hundreds of illustrations, photographs, animations, and sounds. You can filter the Clip Art page to display a category of photographic images (Animals, Business, Food & Dining, Household, People, or Special Occasions), to display Animations or Clip Art (the Personal category contains extra clip art that you’ve added to the Clip Gallery), or to display photos in specific source folders.
The Object Palette makes it easy to view the available images. By moving the slider at the bottom of the palette, you can change the size of the images in the preview window.
Add Images to the Clip Gallery
The Object Palette draws its Clip Art content from the Clip Gallery. You can open the Clip Gallery independently of the Object Palette by clicking Clip Art on the Insert menu. You can add more clip art to the Clip Gallery from the Microsoft Office Online Web site, which you access by clicking the Online button in the Clip Gallery.
From Office Online, you can search for clip art and link to many different image providers. You can click any thumbnail to view a larger version of the clip, its associated keywords, and file information. When you locate a clip that you want to add to the Clip Gallery, select the Add To Selection Basket check box next to the clip either on the Office Online page or in the Preview window.
Add as many clips to the selection basket as you want. When you’re ready to add your collected clips to the Clip Gallery, use the links in the Selection Basket pane on the left side of the screen to preview the selected clips and download them.
The downloaded files are available from the Downloads window on your Mac, or from the Downloads folder stored in your user profile.
To add clip art from the Downloads window or folder to the Clip Gallery:
Extra clip art that you add by using this method is accessible from the Favorites category in the Clip Gallery, and from the Personal category on the Clip Art page of the Object Palette.
All the free clip art available through the Clip Gallery and from the Office Online site is available for you to use without restriction or license. Some third-party image providers that you link to from Office Online also offer licensed images (but these are not free).
