Chapter 16: Plan Production

Create view frames. When you create view frames, you must select the template file that contains the layout tabs that will be used as the basis for your sheets. This template must contain predefined viewports. You can define these viewports with extra vertices so you can change their shape after the sheets have been created.

Master It Open the MasteringPlanProduction.dwg. Run the Create View Frames wizard to create view frames for the Bike Path alignment in the current drawing. (Accept the defaults for all other values.)

Solution

1. Change to the Output tab, and then select Plan Production Tools Create View Frames.

2. On the Alignment page, select Bike Path from the Alignment drop-down menu. Click Next.

3. On the Sheets page, select the Plan And Profile option. Click the ellipsis button to display the Select Layout As Sheet Template dialog. In this dialog, click the ellipsis button, browse to C:Mastering Civil 3D 2012CH 16Data, select the template named Mastering (Imperial) Plan and Profile.dwt, and click Open.

4. Select the layout named ARCH D Plan And Profile 20 Scale, and click OK.

5. Click Create View Frames.

Edit view frames. The Edit View Frames command allows the user some freedom on how the frames will appear.

Master It Open the MasteringPlan Production1.dwg, and move the VF- (9) view frame to Sta. 40+50 to lessen the overlap. Then adjust the match line so that it is now at Sta. 38+15.

Solution

1. Click on the VF- (9) view frame.

2. Make sure you have Dynamic Input on. Click on the triangular grip. Type 4050↵. The view frame is now centered on Sta. 40+50. Press Esc to clear the selection.

3. Click on the Match Line 8 to show its grips.

4. Click on the triangular grip. Type 3815↵. The match line is now centered better between the two view frames.

Generate sheets and review Sheet Set Manager. You can create sheets in new drawing files or in the current drawing. Use the option to create sheets in the current drawing when a) you’ve referenced in the view frame group, or b) you have a small project. The resulting sheets are based on the template you chose when you created the view frames. If the template contains customized viewports, you can modify the shape of the viewport to better fit your sheet needs.

Master It Continue working in the MasteringPlanProduction1.dwg file or you can open MasteringPlanProduction2.dwg. Run the Create Sheets wizard to create plan and profile sheets for Bike Path using the template Mastering (Imperial) Plan and Profile.dwt. (Accept the defaults for all other values.)

Solution

1. Change to the Output tab, and then select Plan Production Tools Create Sheets.

2. On the View Frame Group And Layouts page, under the Layout Creation section, select All Layouts In The Current Drawing, then click Create Sheets.

3. Click OK to save the drawing.

4. Click a location as the profile origin.

5. Dismiss the events Panorama.

6. In Sheet Set Manager, double-click the sheet named 1- Sheet - (1).

Create section views. More and more municipalities are requiring section views. Whether this is a mile-long road or a meandering stream, Civil 3D can handle it nicely via Plan Production.

Master It Open MasteringPlanProduction3.dwg. Create Plan Production Sheets with the defaults using the methods you learned earlier.

Solution

1. From the Home tab, and Section Views panel, select Section Views Create Multiple Views.

2. Click Create Section Views.

3. Select a spot above the centerline profile. The multiple section views are created.

4. From the Output tab and Plan Production panel, select Create Section Sheets.

5. Click Create Sheets. You will have to save your drawing before the process ends.
