Comical Color
With its connotations of childishness, games, and friendliness, com-
ical color is bright and somewhat naïve. Bright pink, orange, and
violet together bring a circuslike quality to the palette, as well as
pink’s soft energy, orange’s adventurous spirit, and bright violet’s
compromising nature. Golden and lemon yellow appear for added
warmth, and a slightly more yellow version of Kelly green acts as a
foil to reddish hues. Although deep tones of blue and violet should
be avoided in light of their somber, more restful, and sophisticated
messages, a saturated cyan, especially in close proximity to its com-
plement, yellow-orange, can be quite funny. Saturated primaries in
combination with small amounts of black bring out an association
with comic books.
