SharePoint Designer is more than an HTML editing tool. This chapter demonstrated techniques that you can use when designing SharePoint sites and solutions and explained that the focus of SharePoint Designer is now on how a site or Site Collection owners can use it to manage their sites. For those organizations that implement development, test, and production environments, SharePoint Designer can be used in the pre-production environments and amendments can be transferred to the production environment in a controlled manner. These improvements and SharePoint Designer’s emphasis on safe-by-default editing, together with its security settings at the web application and Site Collection level should persuade organizations to no longer say no to using SharePoint Designer.

The next chapter will go into more depth on how to customize the user interface such as the addition of commands on the server ribbon and notification messages. This will provide a more holistic result to the solutions you created in this chapter.
