DAY 196 | SPORTS & PHOTOJOURNALISM |
Celebration shows itself on the field in a variety of ways: one athlete pumping a fist, two athletes slapping hands or a group of teammates jumping together. In this game, it was clear that the Anaheim Angels were about to finish their 2002 season with a game seven win of the World Series. The first baseline where I was seated provided an ideal angle from which to capture the victors running out of their dugout to celebrate with their teammates on the field.
I decided to use a 70-200mm lens—allowing a wider perspective—to capture the scope of the whole team celebrating at the pitcher’s mound. I wanted to include as many players as possible and not cut any arms out of the photo if anyone jumped in jubilation. This photo captures a group of exuberant Angels as well as some individual players running to join their teammates. —TH
