Use of Light: Front Lighting

MAKE HASTE WHILE THE SUN’S LOW

Front light on a subject can create images filled with brilliant colors. Using a wide aperture as well, allows the background to be blurred creating isolation of the subject. Not only is this technique difficult for the subject, causing them to squint, but the direct light can cause unwanted harsh shadows. The best time of day to use front light is when the sun is close to the horizon, typically within an hour of the sun setting or just rising. —TH
