DAY 156 | SPORTS & PHOTOJOURNALISM |
The Nike Team Cross Country Nationals (later called the Nike Cross Nationals) in Portland, Oregon, provided a wonderful opportunity to photograph packs of athletes competing. I placed the camera on a small tripod and connected it to a wireless transmitter so I could fire the camera remotely as the runners passed. Because I was not able access the camera during the race, I set it to time value mode. This allowed me to stop the action and accommodate any changes in sunlight. I chose a 15mm fish-eye lens to accentuate the curves of the man made hills of the course. —TH
