DAY 86 | SPORTS & PHOTOJOURNALISM |
Sometimes an accidental moment becomes the most meaningful image in a series of photos. This photograph was taken during a studio shoot in San Francisco for the Smuin Ballet company. I had a seamless backdrop and studio lights set up to take photos of the dancers in their stage attire. Michael Smuin, the company director, stepped in to demonstrate his vision of the shot for the dancers, and I snapped a few photos to test the light. The image captures Michael’s enthusiasm and flair, and respect among his dancers. Michael passed away soon after, and this photo was used at an event in his honor since it was such a strong representation of his character. —TH
