Alone

Image

Los Angeles-based Rick Szczechowski is a commercial photographer. He is particularly interested in the art of polymer photogravures. His can be seen at Island Weiss Gallery in New York City and at Hunsaker/Schlesinger Fine Art in Santa Monica.

This image was made with a 4 × 5 camera, using a type 55 positive/negative Polaroid that was not processed until much later in the day. After processing, the black and white negative was placed on a scanner, gooey side down. The result is the sloppy border effect. The image was taken with a very long (30-second) exposure and was manipulated in Photoshop using curves, layers, gradation, and just a smidgen of noise.
