The Digital Revolution

TECHNOLOGY THAT’S GOOD FOR NATURE

With the advent of digital technology, nature photography has undergone a revolution. Being able to control the entire process from snapping the shutter to printing an image is within reach of anyone.

A digital camera allows nature photographers to experiment, like with this shot of daisies at sunrise, which was taken using on-camera flash to illuminate the underside of the flowers. The daisy picture looked fairly good in the LCD monitor, but there was room for improvement. Unfortunately, the background light changed immediately and dramatically, so there was no opportunity to capture another image. So I enhanced it, using basic features, such as Shadows and Highlights, Brightness and Contrast, Color Variations, and Unsharp Mask. Chalk up another success story for the digital revolution. —WTD
