Using a Motor Drive

WANT SOME GATORADE® WITH THAT?

One of the main objectives of action photography is capturing the quintessential moment. The use of a motor drive can help produce several usable images. A motor drive is an internal mechanism that quickly advances film and cocks the shutter for the next frame to be captured.

Here, the University of Alabama head coach Nick Saban is showered with Gatorade by players celebrating their 2010 BCS National Championship win. This composite image showing the progression of the liquid splash was created from three of nine images shot in a one-second burst. High-end, professional cameras can record up to 10 frames per second. —TH
