Image DAY 221 PHOTOGRAPHY 101

Subject Matter

GETTING UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL

Ahh, the fun part. Let’s let go of the technical study for a while and concentrate on how to produce a more visually appealing photograph.

The first step is deciding on your subject. Point the camera at your subject. Then move in closer. Then move in closer again.

The main problem with photographs is that sometimes it’s hard to tell what the subject of the photo is. Say you are taking a photo of the lovely cake your mother made for your birthday. Instead of taking a photo of the entire table that the cake is sitting on, which also shows plates, cutlery and random other birthday party items, move in a little closer and fill the frame with just the cake. It will be obvious that the cake is your subject, and you will have a much more detailed photograph to treasure.

Are you going on a family vacation? Instead of lining up the family and taking the photograph from far away and showing them from head to toe as well as random scenery around them, move in closer and fill a larger part of the frame with them. Your family will be the subject, and you will have captured the expressions on their faces, which would be hard to see in the photograph from a distance.
