DAY 206 | SPORTS & PHOTOJOURNALISM |
Panning can produce interesting results, if you are willing to take the chance of getting a great shot . . . or nothing at all. Using a slow shutter speed of 1/160 second or less and following the subject on his or her plane of movement allows you to blur busy backgrounds and show speed. When the frame involves human motion, arms and legs can become distorted and ruin the photo, or with some luck, they complement the streaks of color in the background. —TH
