About the Authors

Patrice-Anne Rutledge writes about technology from her home outside San Francisco and is the author or co-author of 17 computer books including Special Edition Using Microsoft Office 97 Professional, Bestseller Edition and Sams Teach Yourself Quicken Deluxe 99 in 24 Hours, also by Macmillan Computer Publishing. She has used—and has trained others to use—PowerPoint for many years, designing presentations for meetings, seminars, trade shows, and worldwide audiences.

Tom Mucciolo, founder and president of MediaNet, is an accountant, turned actor, turned author and acclaimed speaker on presentation skills. He is an expert at enhancing the key components of communication including the message (scripting), the media (visual design), and the mechanics (delivery). His seminars and workshops have been rated as "exceptional" and "entertaining" and many consider Tom one of the country's top presentation specialists. His one-to-one coaching sessions, ranging from basic to advanced, develop individual style and prepare a person for presenting in a very visual world.

Timothy Dyck has been using, supporting, and developing Microsoft Office applications since 1984 (when he was blown away seeing Microsoft Word for DOS's on-screen italics for the first time). He is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and has an honors degree in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. He is now a contributing editor for PC Week Labs, specializing in databases and Web development tools.

Robert Fuller has employed PowerPoint for the last five years to design and edit marketing materials for one of America's most successful multinationals. A film student in New York City and Web designer at his own small firm of MacIntyre & Company, Robert spends his waking hours attempting to break free of obscurity (screenwriting), communing with fellow digit-heads (Web development), and trying to maintain his sanity (sleeping, eating, etc.).

Read Gilgen is the director of Learning Support Services at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and is currently the president of the International Association for Language Learning Technology. He holds a Ph.D. in Latin American Literature and Linguistics from the University of California, Irvine, and has taught and written extensively on DOS, Windows, and WordPerfect. He authored Que's WordPerfect for Windows Hot Tips and contributed to Special Edition Using WordPerfect Suite 8 and Special Edition Using Microsoft Office 97 Professional, Bestseller Edition.

Laurie Ulrich has been teaching computer classes for universities and corporate training centers for over 10 years. She also runs her own firm, Limehat & Company, Inc., an organization that specializes in technical documentation, software education, Web page design, and Web site hosting. Her firm's primary focus is helping businesses to make the most of their computer investment by shedding their fears of computerization, and remaining on the cutting edge of business software. Laurie has authored four books for Macmillan Computer Publishing: Using Word 97, Using PowerPoint 97, The Office 97 Productivity Pack, and The Complete Idiot's Guide to Running a Small Office with Microsoft Office.
