Manipulating Objects

You can easily cut, copy, paste, move, and resize PowerPoint objects.

To cut a selected object, click the Cut button on the Standard toolbar or press Ctrl+X.

Tip

To select more than one object, hold down the Shift key while selecting objects or drag a rectangular shape around all the objects with the mouse.

Tip

Click the Undo button to undo cutting an object.

To copy a selected object, click the Copy button or press Ctrl+C.

Tip

To copy the attributes of a particular object and apply them to another object, use the Format Painter button on the Standard toolbar. For example, selecting an object with 3D effects, clicking the Format Painter button, and then selecting another object would apply 3D effects to the new object as well.

To paste a cut or copied object to another location, such as another slide, click the Paste button or press Ctrl+V.

Note

The Clipboard in PowerPoint 2000 includes the capability to store 12 different copies. To see what the Clipboard currently contains, choose View, Toolbars, Clipboard. The Clipboard dialog box displays graphic icons of available clips. To view the initial text of each clip, place the mouse over the icon.

To move a selected object,

use the mouse to drag the object to a new location.

Resizing an existing object is also an easy procedure. When you select an object, resizing handles display around its edges. Figure 12.24 illustrates these handles.

Drag the handles with the mouse to make the object smaller, larger, or a different shape. Notice that depending on which sizing handle you select—a corner or interior handle—you can either enlarge the entire object or totally change its shape. To resize the selected object proportionately from a corner, press the Shift key and drag a corner handle to the appropriate size.
