This chapter discussed the details of C++ Standard Library class string
. We discussed assigning, concatenating, comparing, searching and swapping strings. We also introduced a number of member functions to determine string characteristics, to find, replace and insert characters in a string, and to convert string
s to pointer-based strings and vice versa. You learned about string iterators and performing input from and output to strings in memory. Finally, we introduced functions for converting numeric values to string
s and for converting string
s to numeric values. In the next chapter, we introduce struct
s, which are similar to classes, and discuss the manipulation of bits, characters and C strings.
