46 Certification Study Guide Series: IBM Maximo Asset Management V7.1 3.4.3 PM hierarchy A PM hierarchy is a group of PMs arranged in parent- child relationships. At the highest level of a PM hierarchy, one PM is the parent. This top- level PM can have one or more child PMs. Each child PM can have one or more children, and so on. A child PM can only have one parent PM. You can create PM hierarchies that mirror your asset and location hierarchies, as shown in Figure 3- 7. Figure 3- 7 PM Hierarchy You use PM hierarchies to generate hierarchies of scheduled work orders. When one PM in the hierarchy is due to be generated, IBM Maximo Asset Management generates the PM work orders for every PM in the hierarchy. You can enable this feature for children by selecting the Use this PM to Trigger PM Hierarchy? box. In addition, you can add a sequence number to each PM in a PM hierarchy; the sequence number is copied to work orders you generate from the PM. To create a PM hierarchy, select Go To . PM Hierarchy Tab in the PM and click New Row. Then, select the entry from the list. You cannot delete a PM record that is part of a hierarchy. PM records that have a parent or child PMs must be removed from their hierarchies before you can delete them. 3.4.4 PM routes You use the Routes application to create lists of related work assets, which are considered stops along the route. These route stops can be assets, locations, or a combination of the two. When you list a route on a PM record and generate work orders, IBM Maximo Asset Management creates a stand- alone work order Attention: To change the hierarchy to be driven by a child PM, you have to select the Override Updates from Master PM? check box.
