Core value differences

Your core values represent the essence of what is most important in your life. These values define what brings you personal and professional fulfillment. When you are conscious of your values, they will serve as your internal compass. Just like the compass needle points to the magnetic North pole, your values can guide you in the right direction when you follow their pull. Being able to orient your work and your life around your core values can provide inspiration and satisfaction. On the other hand, values' misalignment is often at the root of draining obligations, boredom, confusion, tension, and frustration.

Action Point

What does this value mean to me?

Why is it important?

Which of my activities and commitments express this core value?

Which of my core values are expressed in my work?

Which areas of my life are most aligned with my core values?

Which of my values need more expression?

This week, notice how your core values are expressed in the decisions you make. Are you expressing your values and adjusting your work and life around them? Or, on the other hand, are you living with value misalignment? You can gauge this by looking at your calendar and checkbook. The goal is to choose to spend your time and money in ways that reflect your values.

Finally, keep in mind that your values are just yours. The people you work with do not share all of your values. Accepting and embracing these value differences is part of good conflict management and a way to make life easier.
