Percentile

The percentile represents the relative position of a specific metric compared to other metrics within the dataset. For example, the 50th percentile means that half of the values in the dataset are lower, while half are higher. The 90th percentile would mean that 90% of the data has a lower value. Percentiles are typically used when performing a statistical analysis to determine any outliers or anomalies in the datasets that we are working on. At the time of writing, percentiles are available with metrics from the following AWS services:

  • Amazon EC2
  • Amazon RDS
  • Amazon Kinesis
  • The application and classic load balancer
  • The API Gateway
