Metrics are one of the core concepts within the CloudWatch environment. A metric is a data point collected at a certain point in time that represents a numeric value of the resource consumption. For example, a metric can be expressed as the current utilization of the CPU or current write queue length of an EBS volume and so on. Metrics can be standard AWS resource metrics or custom metrics. Metrics can be collected in normal or detailed periods.
