Iquanyin gives her iPhone a workout and runs her ideas through multiple visual permutations before picking just the right one to show the world.

The photo was taken with the app “ToyCamera”, then I opened the image in “Mill Colour”, where I used the Bleached filter to give the original photo its desaturated look.

The photo was run through several filter apps so I have a library of variations to work with. Apps used: “Filter Mania”, “Camera+”, “Awesomer”, and “Mill Colour”. (“Filter Mania” and “Camera+” are current equivalents for free photo filter apps used to create some variations, but that are no longer in the App Store.) All results were saved to the camera roll.

The original and a few filtered variations were run through the app “Polarize”, and the variations were saved to the camera roll.

Using “Mobile Safari”, I found a great graphic and saved it to my iPhone camera roll. I ran the graphic through the app “Photo Lab” twice, once to remove color and make it a line drawing, once to give it a textured, embossed effect.

Using the app “DXP”, I created various versions of the polarized and full-sized images layered together using “DXP”’s many effects, and saved the variations to my camera roll.

I layered various combinations of filtered versions on other filtered versions and saved them. I kept layering versions on other versions, adding back the original if it got too faint, adding a semi-opaque version (the Exclusion effect in “DXP”) or just a lighter version (the Screen effect in “DXP”) if things started getting too dark.

I kept working the image, layering, trying different effects and combinations in “DXP” until there were several finished versions. I layered the modified web graphic once, early on, since I wanted it for “seasoning” the image, not as the entrée. The final version selected, Girl with the White Tail, is shown below.
