The First Day

This image was taken on the beach in Oceanside, California. I started by using the app “Iris Photo Suite” to saturate the colors with the HDR filter. I then processed the image using “BlurFX” to blur out everything except the figures on the sand. I finished processing the image by using “LensLight” to add some sun rays.

Runaway Peacock

I shot this photo at a local arboretum. It was processed also using “Iris Photo Suite” to saturate and then “BlurFX” to isolate some details on the peacock. I also used “PhotoCopier” to add some texture to the image.

Winter Tracks

This was taken at the Burbank Metro station. I don’t typically process my images in black and white, but it was a particularly cold winter and I had been away from my wife and daughter for a few months. I shot this image after dropping them off at the station, blurring the scene except for the foreground tracks using the app “BlurFX” and then using the Vintage Scene setting in “PhotoCopier” to convey how I was feeling at the time.

Drawn in by the Mystery

This was taken at a park in Seattle. I had never been to Seattle and everyone kept telling me how lucky I was to be there during such gorgeous weather. In a way, I feel I went to a Seattle that doesn’t really exist. I used “BlurFX” to isolate the people and the birds, then “Iris Photo Suite” for some texture, and finally “PhotoForge” and “Pro HDR” to saturate and condense the color palette.

Touch It

This was taken at a wild animal park in San Diego. The park has an observation deck, where you can see the whole park, and a hot air balloon that takes people up in the air, where you can see the whole city. I was taken with the idea of observing the observers and I loved the idea that the people in the image and I were all connected by the wonder of the day. I used “FX Photo Studio” minimally to increase contrast.

The Dearly Departed

This was taken at the trolley station in downtown San Diego. I wasn’t sure whether the two people in the image had just been dropped off or were saying goodbye. I used “BlurFX” for isolating the two figures and then “FX Studio”, “Iris Photo Suite”, and “PictureShow” for color manipulation and some scratches.

Dream of Summer

This is part of a series of images that I called Summer in Suburbia, taken at a suburban park in San Diego. I grew up in the suburban tract homes outside Los Angeles. It was a very sterile, bland, but safe environment. I always remember feeling desperately bored during the summers. I suppose with this image and the series, I was trying to re-imagine an alternative childhood for myself. I used “BlurFX” to visually isolate the boy, “PhotoCopier” for texture, “LensLight” for light leaks, and “Iris Photo Suite” for color adjustments.

So the Story Goes ...

This is a combination of two images I shot. One is a landscape of a park, and the images of people were from a photo I took at a train station. Using the app “Juxtaposer”, I cut out and superimposed the people into the landscape. Unconsciously, I think I wanted to have them explore a new environment they would never be a part of: a dream world where they are all having the same dream. Then I used “BlurFX” to create focus only on the people and “Iris Photo Suite” to finetune the color palette and add some texture.
