Abstract Art Generators
The app “Artisan” is an abstract image generator whose visual parameters are determined by your gestures with one, two, or three fingers. At times, it is like playing a musical instrument. A number of mobile artists, particularly Helene Goldberg and Patricio Villarroel, have integrated elements created in “Artisan” into their iPhone and iPad art. Examples of images created in “Artisan” are shown opposite and below.
“Spawn Glow” is an app that creates a swarm of colored lights that follow the touch of your finger, creating a light show and images that are compelling and beautiful.
“iBeams HD” interactive visualizer reacts to your touch or pinch plus the beat and volume of your music.
“Meshmerizer” generates abstract planes of color by touch or by sound.
The app “magic donut” has settings to create various undulating 3D shapes.
“SculptMaster 3D” is a very basic 3D app that lets you paint and carve a clay-like material in a 3D space to create unique 3D objects, but throws in an unlimited amount of fun. The artist Kara Jansson Kovacev uses this app in her chapter to create basic head shapes which she then paints in “Brushes”.
The app “Meritum Paint” paints with a furry brush or with neon particles that follow your finger’s path, and creates paintings with an organic, abstract feeling.
The app “Artree” has masses of controls that allow you to grow trees of different types, with foliage and flower controls.
“Iamascope HD” is an app that allows you to import images as parts of a moving kaleidoscope. It creates 3D objects that move around the frame controlled by your finger movements.
The app “Jackson Pollock” lets you paint on a blank canvas or any image from your camera roll with drippy, Pollock-like brush strokes.
Not to be outdone, the app “Rothkomatic” lets you create complex Rothko-like compositions like the one shown above.
The app “Deco Sketch” provides a unique set of brushes and its own look.
