Social awareness comprises the mastery of five core skills:
- Empathy: The ability to sense other people's emotions and feelings
- Awareness and acknowledgment: The ability that enables you to understand and validate the other person's feelings - without agreeing with them
- Sensitivity: The ability that allows you to acknowledge how the other person is feeling
- Organizational awareness: The ability to recognize and understand how the organizational structures in which you and others operate can influence emotions
- Service orientation: The ability to take in to consideration others' needs and help them achieve their goals
