;Looking for affinity in the candidate

You know that your candidate is a good fit if he has some affinity with the mission, values, and corporate culture of your organization. Otherwise, you may end up with someone who can do the job technically but who is totally out of sync with the rest of your team and corporate culture.

How do you search for this kind of affinity from your candidate? By asking questions like:

  • When working in a team or alone, how much structure, direction, and feedback do you prefer on a daily basis?
  • How do you handle constructive criticism from your colleagues and team manager?
  • Do you usually need extra time to get your job done, everyday?
  • When making decisions, do you generally ask for permission or for forgiveness if the outcome was not as expected?
  • Follow-up question:
    • Did you ever, due to being extremely cautious, never make an error when an error was expected to improve the outcome of the work that was being developed?
