Build or expand your social network

Reaching out to others and building relationships is the most basic technique of human survival. Humans beings are hard wired to connect a simple smile releases natural antidepressants that make us feel happy, cared, and loved. It is scientifically proven that a hug stimulates the release of oxytocin, serotonin, and dopamine, significantly reducing worry, and lowering the heart rate:

  • Build close relationships with your partner, children, or friends: Try to put aside what is burning you out and make the time you spend with loved ones positive and enjoyable.
  • Build relationships with your co-workers: When you take a break, instead of paying attention to your smart phone, engage with your colleagues. Have happy hours after work with your colleagues. But avoid the negative-minded who that spend all the time complaining.
  • Do some volunteering or join a support group: Joining a support group can give you a place to talk to like-minded people about how to deal with daily stress and to make new friends. It is never too late to build new friendships and expand your social network if you feel that you have no one to turn to.
