Trust in virtual teams

Managing a group of people that most probably never met face to face or who have never spoken to one another personally is a leadership challenge. However, you can apply the same recommendations as were indicated previously, plus some little changes, that we will cover now:

  • Create a webpage or FB group or any other online idea you have only for your team--where every member of the team can have a personal profile.
  • Every week or fortnight have a virtual meet and greet to help everyone get to know one another as individuals.
  • Have a team charter with the goals and expectations of the team, with an organogram so everyone knows each other's role as well as processes for submitting work digitally.
  • Have rules as if the team was working face to face, such as, be on time for conference calls or web meetings, and let the rest of the team know when someone will be absent, or on vacation.
  • Lead by example by following through on the promises you make. In a virtual team, keeping your promises is the foundation stone of trust, productivity, efficiency, happiness and pride.
