Summary

In this chapter, we have learned that an organization also has emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence in an organization needs to be role-modeled by the leaders, whether they are situational leaders or top-of-the-ladder leaders. Also, if you want to build an emotionally intelligent organization, you need to have a vision, mission, values and purpose that attract emotional intelligent collaborators.

How can we assess the level of emotional intelligence in the organization? And, how can we develop and build an emotionally intelligent organization?

We have learned that an organization operates in three dimensions. The first dimension is where the organization is itself with its Vision, Mission, Values, and Principles. The second dimension is the relationships with sentient beings that make the business grow: its people, founders, stakeholders, employees, and so on. The third dimension is where the relationship is with its customers, clients, partners, competitors, and society at large. These three dimensions work together as a big propeller, creating momentum and bringing your organization to the forefront of success.

We have learned strategies to enhance the level of emotional intelligence in each of the three dimensions, such as how to improve the environment of the office, how to have an office policy of gratitude and kindness, and how to raise the levels of emotional intelligence in the customer support team and also in the sales team.

In the next chapter, we will learn how important it is for a IT Manager to have a good level of emotional intelligence that enables him to know himself and to know and manage their people. Specifically, the emotional intelligence of the five most challenging MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) personality types—ESTJ, ENTJ, ISTJ, INFJ, INTP—found with more incidence in positions of management, leadership and in high achievers employees in the IT industry. The strengths and weakness of these five personality types, how they are seen in the workplace as employees, subordinates and managers and how they can improve their emotional intelligence skills to be easier to work with them. And how to manage extroverts and introverts at work, to have a great workplace environment and increase productivity.
