Closing a project

Many a time, a company develops many small projects, in several years such a company ends up with a huge list of projects, the majority of which are not used anymore (no new issues, files, Wiki pages, no updates to forums, and so on). Removing such projects can be unacceptable as: some of them can be renewed in future, some can be forked and the data of the original project can still be needed for the fork, data of others can be needed for reference, and so on. Leaving such projects in the list can be also problematic as, in this case, the project list becomes unusable. This is when the Close link on the project Overview page comes in handy.

When clicked, and after confirmation, this link puts the projects into a read-only mode. In this mode, all the project information remains available, all read permissions are preserved, but nothing can be changed or added. Refer the following screenshot:

Closing a project

The overview page of the closed project contains the warning and the Close link turns into the Reopen link. Yes, the latter can be used to make the project active again. Also note that the closed project does not have New issue and Settings tabs anymore.

Note

Only project members having the Close / reopen the project permission can make the project read-only or active.

The project list does not include closed projects by default.
