Have a healthy lifestyle

A healthy lifestyle includes having a healthy diet and doing exercise, even when you don't feel like it. What you put in your body has a huge impact on your mood and energy levels throughout the day:

  • Don't drink alcohol: Alcohol can temporarily produce a sense of relaxation, but the flip side is that alcohol causes anxiety.
  • Reduce or eliminate your intake of sugar, caffeine, trans-fats, refined carbs and foods with chemical preservatives or hormones. This is not even food! Does your car work on caffeine?! Neither does your body, especially your brain. The artificial food and beverages quickly lead to a crash in mood and energy.
  • Boost your brain and your mood: Eat more Omega-3 fatty acids in salmon, herring, mackerel, anchovies, sardines, seaweed, flaxseed, and walnuts. Your brain will love it!
  • Stop smoking: Like the alcohol, nicotine may first give you a sense of relaxation when you are stressed, but both are very powerful stimulants, making you even more anxious.
  • Exercise daily: I know that when one is going through a burnout, exercise is the last thing you want to do or even think about. Even though exercise is a powerful antidote to stress and burnout. I am talking here about low-impact but simple physical exercise; it will boost your mood and increase your energy levels. 15-20 minutes in the morning, 15-20-minutes at the end of day. Plus, some deep breathing and five minutes of meditation. These little bursts of activity will boost your mood and energy for two hours. And if you do it with a smile on your face or laughing of yourself it will double the boost. Walk, dance, train with weights, swim, whatever pleases you most. This not only boosts your mood, but also increases your energy levels, sharpens your focus, and relaxes both the mind and body. Do mindfulness walking - instead of focusing on your thoughts, focus on your body and how it feels as you move - the sensation of your feet hitting the ground, the cool or the warmth, the wind on your skin, and so on. During your walk try to identify five different things: sounds, scents, colors, forms, whatever. By shifting your focus from your thoughts to your body you are maximizing the stress relief and well-being.
