When people ask me if I “cheat” during training, I always say: No, when I want a burger, I have a burger. But I prepare it myself so I know what goes in it. And this recipe features avocado, which has fats that can help you digest the cholesterol and saturated fats found in the red meat.

INGREDIENTS
1lb (450g) lean ground beef (80%)
1 large egg
1⁄2 cup breadcrumbs
1⁄2 medium white onion, finely diced
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
salt and freshly ground black pepper
4 sesame seed buns
Bibb lettuce
1⁄2 medium red onion, sliced
1 medium avocado, quartered and sliced
Dijon mustard
mayonnaise
DIRECTIONS
1 Preheat the grill to high.
2 In a bowl, combine the beef, egg, breadcrumbs, onion, Worcestershire sauce, and parsley. Season with salt and pepper.
3 Form the mixture into 4 patties. Place the patties on the grill and cook until they reach your desired doneness:
4 Remove the burgers from the grill and place each on a bun half. Top each burger with equal amounts of lettuce, onion, avocado, mustard, and mayonnaise. Top with the remaining bun halves and serve immediately.
