Ever see a perfectly poached egg and wonder how they did that? Now you can find out! Poaching is one of the healthiest and leanest ways to cook an egg because you don’t need fats, oils, or high heat. This is a great example of how to add this versatile, delicious, and nutritious food to your diet.
Makes: 1 serving
Serving size: 2 eggs
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 4 minutes
INGREDIENTS
4 tsp white wine vinegar, divided
2 tsp kosher salt, divided
2 large eggs
freshly ground black pepper
DIRECTIONS
1 Fill a small saucepot three-fourths full with water. Place the saucepot on the stovetop over medium heat and bring the water to a simmer. Stir in 2 teaspoons of vinegar and 1 teaspoon of salt.
2 Crack 1 still-cold egg into a bowl. Use a spoon to quickly stir the simmering water in one direction until smoothly spinning around. Carefully slide the egg from the bowl into the center of the whirlpool.
3 Turn off the heat, cover the saucepot, and let sit on the burner for 5 minutes. Carefully remove the egg from the pot with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel to remove excess water.
4 Repeat these steps with the remaining egg, 2 teaspoons of vinegar, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Serve the eggs immediately.
You can use these poached eggs on Avocado Toast or as a great addition to salads for extra protein.
